OpenFn builds an open-source integration platform (iPaaS) that connects applications, registries and legacy systems to automate data exchange and service delivery for public and social sector organizations.
OpenFn is an open-source integration platform company founded in 2014. It provides an integration platform as a service (iPaaS) that connects web applications, AI tools, registries and legacy systems to automate data exchange and service delivery for public and social sector organizations. Its software is recognised as a Digital Public Good and is deployed by organizations in more than 40 countries.
The company's products include the OpenFn Platform, a cloud-hosted iPaaS; Lightning, a fully self-hosted web application for workflow automation that gives governments and NGOs control over their own deployment; and an open-source integration toolkit offering more than 70 adaptors for mission-critical applications such as DHIS2, CommCare, OpenMRS and Salesforce. Both cloud and self-hosted deployment models are supported, and the technical work spans systems integration, workflow automation, data interoperability, health information systems and connector development.
OpenFn works with organizations across the public sector, public health, humanitarian response, child protection, social-sector NGOs and wildlife conservation. Users include UNICEF and the Wildlife Conservation Society, which synchronizes dozens of global sites. The engineering culture emphasizes open source, an anti-vendor-lock-in philosophy, and building governments' capacity to chart their own digital futures, while prioritizing the privacy and safety of sensitive data such as child and patient records.
