Supabase builds an open-source Postgres development platform that gives developers a complete backend: a Postgres database at the core of every project, with built-in authentication, auto-generated instant APIs, storage, edge functions, real-time subscriptions and vector search. Founded in 2020 and started as an open-source alternative to Firebase, the company reports that more than 1.7 million developers use the platform.

The platform is spread across the software development and developer-tools industries, with a technical focus on PostgreSQL, open-source software, authentication, object storage and backend-as-a-service. Funding to date exceeds $116 million.

Supabase operates as a fully remote team with members in 25 countries. It describes its mission as making backend development more accessible, more portable and more enjoyable, and frames itself as a movement rather than a toolset. The company says it is shaped by the open-source community, hires people who care deeply about developer experience and values operational excellence.
