The Bloom Africa is a global nonprofit headquartered in Atlanta, in the United States, that works with Black girls and women across Africa and the Diaspora. Founded by Tosin Durotoye, the organisation connects Diaspora resources with community-led programmes and runs programmes spanning education, mentorship, economic opportunity and period equity, with a stated focus on dignity, equity and keeping girls in school.
Its work is structured around a three-stage leadership pipeline: leadership and identity development for high-school girls; holistic support and scholarships for university-aged women; and career readiness, leadership labs and early-business grants for emerging leaders. Alongside this, the Girl in Bloom Summit convenes girls for leadership and development programming, with more than 2,000 attendees to date. The Bloom.Period. initiative expands access to menstrual products and menstrual-health education.
The organisation reports reaching more than 30,000 women and girls across 18 or more African and Diaspora countries. It has awarded over $50,000 in scholarships and grants, funding more than 20 youth-led social-impact projects, and works with more than 10 strategic partners, including the U.S. Department of State and UNFPA.
