Docker, Inc.

Docker, Inc. is the company behind an open containerization platform that packages applications together with their dependencies into standardized units, so that software runs consistently from a developer's local machine to production servers in the cloud. Founded in 2013, the company has made containerization a de facto standard for how software is built and deployed. Its technology is used worldwide, across laptops, on-premises servers and cloud infrastructure, by startups and Fortune 100 companies alike.

The company's product line centres on three areas. Docker Desktop provides a local development environment for building, sharing and running containerized applications. Docker Hub is a registry service for distributing container images. A broader suite of security and developer tools supports the container workflow, including work in software supply chain security. Docker reports more than 20m monthly users and 20bn image pulls, with millions of developers using its tools to build and run applications.

Technical work spans containerization, application packaging and deployment, developer tooling, cloud infrastructure, software supply chain security and developer productivity platforms. The company describes its mission as giving developers their time back by reducing complexity and eliminating friction across the software development lifecycle, with a particular focus on persistent pain points such as the "it works on my machine" problem. Its platform is open by design, and its stated orientation is developer-first.

Docker's tooling is inherently cross-platform and cloud-agnostic, and its user base is distributed globally. Engineers joining the company work on software consumed by millions of developers, in domains ranging from local development environments to registries and security tooling.
